OBJECTIF

Favoriser l’essor et le renouvellement de la communauté des canadianistes en soutenant les travaux de jeunes universitaires, en permettant aux candidats retenus de passer de 4 à 6 semaines dans une université canadienne ou un centre de recherche, autre que la/le leur pour y poursuivre des recherches liées à une thèse ou à un mémoire portant sur les études canadiennes.

Note : Cette bourse permettra à des étudiants, dont le projet de thèse ou de mémoire est  à l’étape de la rédaction, d’avoir accès à de l’information et des ressources disponibles au Canada.

ADMISSIBILITÉ

Les étudiant(e)s en sciences sociales ou humaines qui s’apprêtent à rédiger une thèse ou un mémoire d’études de deuxième ou troisième cycle sur le Canada. (niveau: Maîtrise/Doctorat).

CONDITIONS

  1. L’étudiant(e) doit être à l’étape de rédaction de la thèse ou du mémoire;
  2. L’étudiant(e) doit avoir obtenu une lettre d’appui d’un membre du corps enseignant d’une université établie au Canada; cette personne doit accepter de le/la parrainer tout au long de la durée de son séjour à cette université. Le parrain agira à titre non officiel; il verra, entre autres, à ce que l’étudiant(e) puisse avoir accès à tous les services de bibliothèque, il l’aidera à établir des relations avec d’autres professeurs et étudiants, et il essaiera en général de faciliter la réalisation de ses recherches. On ne s’attend pas à ce que le parrain joue le rôle de directeur de thèse.

Note : Une copie de la thèse, lorsque complètée, devra être envoyée au Secrétariat CIEC.

PROCÉDURE

Chaque candidat doit soumettre sa candidature directement au secrétariat de son association nationale d’études canadiennes (ou au président de son association dans les cas où il n’y a pas de secrétariat permanent). Les dossiers de candidature soumis directement au CIEC ne seront pas acceptés ni ré-acheminées. Il incombe à chaque association de transmettre un maximum de 3 nominations au CIÉC. Pas plus de deux bourses ne seront octroyées par association pour chaque concours.

Le dossier de candidature comprendra:

  1. un formulaire d’inscription [ disponible en format Adobe Acrobat(PDF) ] dûment rempli et signé par le candidat et le président de l’association;
  2. un texte de deux pages (maximum) décrivant le projet de thèse ou de mémoire. Ce texte doit établir clairement en quoi le séjour proposé est lié au projet de thèse ou mémoire (cliquez ici pour voir un exemple de ce qu’une proposition devrait contenir) et en quoi cette visite permettra d’améliorer la thèse/mémoire. Il doit aussi comprendre un itinéraire des activités (une page maximum y compris les dates d’arrivée et de départ);
  3. un relevé de note officiel (dans le cas où un tel relevé ne peut être obtenu, une lettre du régistraire est requise).
  4. une lettre de recommandation signée par le directeur de thèse;
  5. une lettre d’un universitaire établi dans une institution universitaire canadienne et ayant accepté de le parrainer, dans laquelle ce dernier déclare accepter de jouer ce rôle.

N.B. Les demandes incomplètes ne seront pas considérées.

CRITÈRES

La sélection des candidats retenus se fera en vertu des critères suivants :

  1. la clarté du projet et de sa méthodologie;
  2. la contribution potentielle du projet à la connaissance dans le domaine choisi;
  3. la probabilité que le projet soit effectivement réalisé pendant la durée de la bourse;
  4. le besoin évident de mener la recherche au Canada;
  5. la lettre de recommandation;
  6. la valeur du dossier académique telle que démontrée par les relevés de notes, prix et distinction.

 

SÉLECTION

Les candidatures seront soumises à une évaluation, puis classées; un comité d’adjudication composé d’universitaires désignera les candidats gagnants. Les décisions du comité sont finales et sans appel.

Notes : Il incombera à chaque association nationale d’informer par écrit les parrains du succès ou de l’insuccès des candidats qu’elle a proposés.

De retour à leur université d’origine, les boursiers doivent déposer auprès du CIÉC un rapport écrit décrivant leur réalisations pendant la durée de leur bourse.

NOMBRE DE BOURSES

Six (6) bourses seront offertes par année.

VALEUR DES BOURSES

La bourse sera d’un maximum de 4,000 $CAN, y compris tous les frais.
Des bourses de valeurs inférieures peuvent être accordées.

DATE LIMITE

S.V.P. envoyez le formulaire dûment rempli, et tout autre document d’appui requis, à l’attention du président de l’association d’études canadiennes appropriée. Veuillez noter que les échéances varient entre les différentes associations d’études canadiennes. Il incombe au candidat de s’informer auprès de son association à ce sujet.

Les demandes de bourses doivent être soumises au CIEC par l’association membre d’études canadiennes avant le 24 novembre.

Après évaluation et signature du président de l’association, votre demande pourrait être acheminée par celle-ci au Conseil international d’études canadiennes pour considération finale par le Comité d’adjudication.

Graduate Student Scholarships

Objective

To facilitate the renewal of the community of Canadianists by supporting the work of young scholars, by enabling successful candidates to spend 4-6 weeks at a Canadian university or research site other than their own doing research related to their thesis or dissertation in the field of Canadian Studies.

Note:  The scholarship is not intended to initiate a thesis or dissertation but rather to provide access to crucial scholarly information and resources in Canada in support of a thesis/dissertation at the point of being written.

Eligibility

Students in the social sciences or humanities who are in the process of preparing a graduate thesis or doctoral dissertation on Canada. (Master’s/Ph.D. level)

Conditions

  1. The student must be at the thesis or dissertation stage.
  2. The student must have obtained in writing the support of a faculty member at a Canadian university who has agreed to act as the student’s academic sponsor during the tenure of his/her award. The sponsor will act in an informal capacity and will arrange for library privileges, contacts with other faculty and students, and generally try to facilitate the student’s research. The academic sponsor will not be expected to act in the role of supervisor.

NOTE: A copy of the awardees thesis, once completed, should be sent to the ICCS Secretariat.

Procedure

Each applicant should submit an application and all supporting materials directly to the secretariat of his/her national Canadian Studies association (or to the association president in cases where there are no permanent secretariats). Applications submitted directly to the ICCS by the applicant will not be accepted nor redirected. It is the responsibility of the national Canadian Studies association to forward no more than 3 nominations to the ICCS. No more than two scholarships per association will be awarded at each adjudication.

The nomination will comprise:

  1. a completed application form [ available in PDF format ] which will be signed by the candidate and the president of the national association.
  2. a two-page proposal outlining the thesis/dissertation project (Click here for an example of what a proposal should contain). The proposal must also state clearly why work at the university in question is essential to the project and how such a visit will enhance the quality of the thesis or dissertation. It must also include a schedule of activities (one page maximum) detailing arrival and departure dates.
  3. an official university transcript (in countries where it cannot be obtained, a letter from the registrar is required).
  4. a letter of support from the student’s thesis/dissertation supervisor.
  5. a copy of the letter from the faculty member in a Canadian university indicating his/her willingness to act as the student’s academic sponsor.

N.B. Incomplete files will not be considered.

Criteria

Successful applicants will be selected according to the following criteria:

  1. the clarity of the proposal and its methodology.
  2. the proposal’s potential contribution to knowledge in its field.
  3. the likelihood of the project’s being accomplished during the period of the award.
  4. the demonstrated need for the research to be carried out in Canada.
  5. the strength of the letter of support.
  6. the past academic awards as demonstrated by transcripts, awards, and distinctions.

Selection

The nominations will be evaluated and ranked, and successful candidates selected by an adjudication committee appointed by the International Council for Canadian Studies. Decisions can not be appealed.

Note: It will be the responsibility of each national association to ensure that all those who agree to be an academic sponsor are informed in writing of the success or failure of each applicant in obtaining the scholarship. 

Upon the student’s return, he/she will file a written report to the ICCS, outlining what was accomplished during the tenure of the scholarship.

Number of Scholarships

Six (6) awards per year.

Value of Scholarships

The amount of the scholarship will be up to CDN$4,000 for all expenses. Smaller awards may be made.

Deadline

Please send a completed form, along with all required supporting documents, to the attention of the President of the appropriate Canadian Studies association. (Please note that the deadlines for submission vary with each Canadian Studies association. It is the candidate’s responsibility to contact the association in question to obtain such information.)

All applications must be submitted by the member association to the ICCS in Ottawa by November 24.

Following assessment and signature by the President of the association, your application may be directed, by the association, to the International Council for Canadian Studies for final consideration by its Adjudication Committee.
